NICOLE BURGESS
MACP, MTA, RCC
Whether you’re feeling like nothing in life is going the way it should, struggling with worries and sadness, trying to make sense of the relationships around you, or navigating a difficult life transition, counselling can be an effective path toward healing and growth. My clients often share that they want to feel hope and happiness for their future, clarity and contentment in their lives, and a sense of personal growth.
Through a caring, respectful, and collaborative relationship, we will work together to rediscover and develop your strengths and resilience as you move toward your goals. I hold a strong belief in our innate wholeness as individuals. It is often the twists and turns of life’s path that make this wholeness difficult to see.
MY EXPERIENCE
Over the past 25 years, I have worked in the fields of counselling and music therapy. This experience has included supporting individuals experiencing grief, facing serious or life-limiting illness, aging and other significant life transitions, professional and family caregivers, and those who have experienced trauma. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families.
MY Education and training
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. I am also a Certified Music Therapist with the Canadian Music Therapy Association. I regularly attend conferences, seminars, and other professional development opportunities to stay current in my knowledge and practice, and to continue growing both personally and professionally.
MY Approach
I use a strength-based, trauma-informed approach to therapy. I hold advanced training in Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy (STST), which forms the foundation of my work. I also draw and am trained in several therapeutic approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EFT and EFIT (Sue Johnson), EMDR, the Gottman Method, the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), mindfulness, and the creative arts. Regardless of the approach, my priority is getting to know you, helping you better understand your thoughts and feelings, and supporting you on your path toward healing and growth.
I am a service provider for First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and ICBC.
